That said, since expansion hero points are 10 hero points each, that means you'd only need 25 hero points to unlock a new elite spec. 25 hero points is a 2 hour hero point run through HoT or PoF. You have 198? Hero points in core tyria and loads more in HoT areas. You also get enough from leveling to 80 to get all the skills and traits unlocked for your core specialization. And we should get 398 hero points on getting to level 80. Everything was working well before this patch on 11/9. Now, after many levels, the hero points remain to be zero. And when checking the net, at level 29 I should have gotten 8 hero points, and at level 31 another 8 hero points.

3. as pointed out by others, hero points certainly do not take 15 hours and if they do, you really need to read up, watch some guides and improve on your game play as well as game knowledge. There are enough guides around to tackle this. A straitforward approach would be to join hero point trains.
The hero points in core Tyria only give one point. In HoT you get 10 points as well, but the hero challenges are harder and sometimes even require a group.I bought both when I returned as a player since my archer was only like lvl 15. Got him up to 80 now with the boost. I have one more boost left.

Most of it should apply if you are looking for direction with PvE. • Start PoF story and get the Raptor. • Quit PoF story, start HoT story and get your glider. You need 30 hero points to unlock an Elite spec, so not too hard, you just need to do 3 hero challenges in Hot/PoF. As you said the only benefit to leveling up from scratch is learning the class at a slower pace, there aren't any achievements tied to it. You do lose out on the incremental level up rewards, but those aren't that great to begin with, and the stuff you get in the lvl 80 boost is way MxTEs.
